Chief Conrad Gorton

I was a fitter/pump man on Ocean Fleets oil tankers with Chief Conrad Gorton (Gorton?). He was a nice man, respected intelligence and hard work; not that I was all that.

I am sure he is retired and pray that I can contact him to pay more respect to him.

I worked under him on the Ras Lanuf, the Elbrega, the ElGurdabia, the Elfwaihat and the Carlisle from 1978 to 1987.

Please help me with any news:-

EDL Heritage Archive

Work on the EDL Heritage Archive is still ongoing and there is an update on the website at < www.elderdempster.org/heritage.htm >.  This is all taking rather longer than we had anticipated, but we should be able to report progress soon.

Painting bought on an Elder Dempster Ship

We sailed on the Aureol from Nigeria in 1970. My parents bought a wonderful oil palette painting of a Nigerian market from one of the ships’ officers who they said was the chief wireless officer.

I was only 6 at the time but we still have the painting. I can’t make out the name on the signature but was wondering if anyone know his name. I would love to know if he made a career from his painting or whether it’s possible to see any other of his works?

Thank you.
